In recent years, Hellenistic astrology has moved from a forgotten fragment of history to the most vibrant movement in modern practice. You see its concepts everywhere—on podcasts, in best-selling textbooks, and across social media.
But there is a distinction between using a system and understanding the logic that built it. In 1993, Robert Schmidt began translating core Greek astrological material that had never been translated into a modern language. (See early history here). Schmidt painstakingly reconstructed the Ancient system from fragments, and he lectured on his findings for 25 years, leaving us with a treasure trove of original discovery.
Much of the terminology and conceptual framework used by today’s most popular teachers—from the biographical narrative (Chapters, Paragraphs, Sentences) of Zodiacal Releasing to the deep philosophical structure of the Planetary Joys—did not simply "reappear" from the Greek. It was painstakingly reconstructed, synthesized, and taught in the private intensives of Robert Schmidt.
